For more than 20 years Teton reels have been my workhorses, they have never let me down despite being subjected to rough treatment in some dreadful situations. The drag system is as good as you can get, super smooth and flawless it has no gears or bearings to freeze up or jam and it remains smooth to protect the finest of leaders in all conditions. The reels are precision-machined from 6061-T6 bar stock aluminium and feature a full frame construction with an exposed palming rim. Due to their thick anodised finish they are suitable for use in fresh or saltwater.
Unfortunately I lost a few reels (they were later found!) so I contacted Teton and ordered some more. The new 7/8 models came, 3.75 inches in diameter, 7.6 ounces in weight. They hold a WF 7F line with 150 yards of 20 pound backing. With a WF 8F line it will hold 125 yards of 20 pound backing. The reel is easily convertible from left or right hand retrieve and the handles are polished epoxy impregnated Dymond wood for durability. They arrived safely and I’m delighted to say that they are every bit as good as the originals that have stood me in such good stead for so many years.
Teton are now doing an LC (Large capacity) 7/8 model which is 3.75 in. in diameter and only 6.7 ounces in weight. This reel will hold a WF 8F line and 225 yds of 20lb. backing or a WF9F line and 175 yds. of 20 lb. backing. The 7-8 LC Reel is an ideal reel for bonefish, striper, steelhead, salmon and permit.
